Demon’s Destiny
This is a synopis of my first full length story:
Hunted and homeless, thirty-five year old K Piper Jordan is a fighter. Nine years ago, she escaped captivity, and while the demon Boarder only controlled her briefly, he left her marked. K spends hours each day researching the occult in general and demons in particular. She learns that demons act selfishly, and satisfy only their own needs. But what need had Boarder intended for her to satisfy?
Garrett Duex Sabres is blessed with stunning good looks fit for the cover of GQ, but he is really a demon. He lives by feeding on the living energy of humans. However, unlike his “Cousins”, Garrett chooses not to feed on pain and misery. Instead he has found that sexual energy is just as potent and far sweeter when taken in small amounts from willing playmates. Exploiting his charms, Garrett spends many evenings moving from one “dinner-date” to the next.
When K walks into Garrett’s life, he becomes immediately attracted to her strange “green” energy. However, her reaction confuses him: He is unaccustomed to having his well-mannered, friendly approach met with fear and flight. Garrett has faced many adversities in his millennium of life, not the least of which is fitting in with humanity. But K is the most intriguing challenge yet. Garrett vows to find her, to taste her energy, and to discover what makes her so special. Keying on K’s unusual aura, he prowls the streets of Portland for months trying to set up a proper introduction. Plans go awry one rainy Oregon evening when Boarder’s servant attempts to capture K. Unwilling to let another have his prey, Garrett pursues. In a last ditch attempt to evade capture, K chooses death over torture and dashes into traffic. Seeing his chance, Garrett snatches her from the path of an oncoming truck. Now their lives are inexplicably tied together.
Before Garrett can explain himself to her, K suffers a painful seizure—a result of injuries she suffered at Boarders hands—and collapses in his arms. Unsure of the best course of action and concerned about the “Other” hunting K, Garrett takes her to a hotel to recover, and perhaps “play.” As he waits for K to heal, Garrett treats the situation as a game, hiding from security, using a room without paying for it, slipping in and out of the hotel without notice, all giving him a small thrill. But it becomes more then a game over time as he becomes drawn to the young woman whose life he has now responsible for.
Garrett is out of his element as he nurses K back to health. Normally impersonal, he sees humans only as a means to feed. But with each passing day he becomes increasingly bewildered by his developing feelings. He cannot imagine why she affects him so deeply. When he hears K’s life story, especially her past demonic imprisonment, Garrett is surprised and moved by her courage and strength. He vows to protect her.
While under Garrett’s care, K suffers a second seizure. As she rests, Garrett extends his energy field hoping to find K’s hidden power, to explore her mind. When he touches the outer edges of K’s thoughts, he feels an immediate attraction and then is abruptly thrown from her mind. Awake from the trance, Garrett checks on K and find that she is near death. Carefully he examines her energy to judge her health and discovers the cause of her seizures. With a flash of inspiration Garrett realizes he may be able to help her, if he has enough energy.
Unfortunately keeping them hidden has taken more energy then anticipated and he needs to feed before attempting anything. Garrett leaves to seek a “dinner date” and encounters three “Cousins” torturing two women in his territory. Enraged, he kills the other demons in a quick but vicious fight, feeding off them instead. Amply replenished, Garrett returns to K and attempts to correct the damage he found by adding his energy to hers.
Her pain gone, K struggles to regain her strength and heal. Confused, not understanding why Garrett is helping her, K is defensive and unconvinced of his good intentions, questioning his motives. Torture and pain are the only memories she has of her captivity with the demon Boarder; she doesn’t even recall how she escaped. Never has she encountered anything that would explain the actions of the demon caring for her. Escape is out of the question at this point, and she is frustrated that she must rely on Garrett for everything as she heals.
Although blatantly obvious that he’s not normally the nurturing type, K finds Garrett tender, enigmatic, sexy and compelling. Gradually she comes to feel safe and protected for the first time in her life. Even as she struggles to understand why this demon would help her, she is not sure she wants to leave him.
When K is stronger, Garrett forces a decision: Will she come to live with him where she will be safe, or return to the street? This offer is a big step for Garrett too. He hasn’t allowed outsiders in his home since he first renovated the building. It has been his safe haven for decades, a place where he can drop his personal shields and relax. But the risk of being attacked by other demons or hunters makes it necessary to open his sanctuary to K. Having no where else to go, K agrees believing this arrangement will only be temporary.
Once they are settled, Garrett explains that a separate personality, his dark side, Taledrin, will awaken with the new moon. Garrett asks his alter ego to leave K alone, but Taledrin has plans of his own: He wants to see what is so intriguing about this woman.
Blending into the shadows and shielding himself, Taledrin sneaks into the apartment. In a fit of anger over the changes she represents, he confronts K. She is at his mercy, but instead of throwing her out, Taledrin ends up caring for her. Disturbed by the darker version of Garrett, yet drawn to him at the same time, K accepts him as Garrett’s brother. After spending three days together, Taledrin grudgingly admits that his feelings for K mirror Garrett’s and looks forward to spending time with her on the next New Moon. K, on the other hand, is not sure she wants him to come back.
After weeks together, Garrett remains frustrated by K’s unwillingness to be physically intimate with him, despite her apparent attraction. His games of seduction become desperate. As they argue the point, K breaks down, and in a flash of anger and self-deprecation confesses that while she is not a virgin, she has never experienced sexual pleasure. This revelation changes Garrett’s attitude completely. Now he feels the need to heal K’s emotional damage, and awaken her to pleasure.
Although K can see that Garrett is trying to help her, the nagging fear that he will soon tire of her and the novelty of the situation, still tears at her. It’s not until K realizes that Garrett would completely change his way of life to make her happy, that she begins to understand the depth of his feelings. Garrett confesses that he has turned to hunting other demons for sustenance, feeling that feeding from sexual energy would be a betrayal to their developing relationship. It’s torture to him, the aggression calling to his dark side, but he is willing to try—for her. With this understanding, K decides that making love with Garrett, if only once, is worth all the risks. It is a chance for her to help heal him. As they share their passion, the explosion of their combined energy throws half the city into a power failure. For the first time in her life, K feels sheltered, loved, and ready to take on the future.
